A Morphological Investigation into the Translation of Children's Literature: A Case Study of Neologisms in The School for Good and Evil

Abstract
This study used a morphological framework to investigate the rendition of neologisms in the Persian translations of Soman Chainani’s The School for Good and Evil. Given the pivotal role of lexical innovation in children’s fiction and the specific challenges of translating these items, this study investigated the mechanisms of word formation and strategies for choosing equivalences, based on Newmark’s taxonomy. Employing a qualitative method centered on rigorous analytical inquiry, the corpus comprises four volumes of the original series alongside two distinct Persian versions. The morphological classification and subsequent analysis of the translated neologisms revealed that the translators have used various linguistic techniques, resulting in a multifaceted lexicon in the target language. The results showed that translators have used various strategies, ranging from transference to naturalization. The strategic selections made by the translators of the two publishers impact the fidelity of semantic transmission, the preservation or omission of textual creativity, and the ultimate cognitive reception by the target audience.
